Slavie in the Community: Academy of Finance
Slavie Federal Savings Bank has been a participant on the Overlea/Lansdowne High Schools Academy of Finance Advisory Board for many years and, more recently, with the Edgewood High School Academy of Finance Advisory Board. The Academy of Finance, a member program of the National Academy Foundation is in partnership with the Baltimore County and Harford County Public Schools, respectively, the regional Community Colleges, and the community and businesses at large. Their mission is to sustain a network of career academies to support the development of America's youth toward personal and professional success.
The organization's ability to support its mission is based on three (3) core organizational beliefs:
To provide students with paid internships and staff with industry-validated curriculum;Slavie Federal Savings Bank does not only participate on several Academy of Finance Advisory Boards, but we also provide summer internships, scholarships for a summer internship for the Harford Community College Small Business Development Center program and job shadowing opportunities for the students. Slavie's staff conducts mock job interviews during the school year with the students and counsels the students on dress code, business demeanor, and interpersonal skills.
To form partnerships among schools, businesses, the local government and the community;
and
To provide an expanded pipeline for workforce development and support student achievement and motivation by preparing students for entry-level careers or higher education in banking and finance related fields.
The Academy of Finance program reaches 75 to 100 sophomores, juniors and seniors from three local high schools each scholastic year.
