Slavie Federal in the Community: the Route 40 Business Association
The Route 40 Business Association was established in 1987 by a small group of businesspersons joining together to get sewer and water along the Route 40 Corridor. The organization has grown to its present membership list of 300 member businesses. The growth has led the way in setting new standards for businesses and communities in the Edgewood and Joppa communities. The organization takes an active role in major in many major projects that benefit the communities it serves, including the Enterprise Zone sewer and water project, Streetscape programs, "Welcome to Edgewood" road sign, tree planting projects, the Police Activity League (PAL) Center, scholarships for students attending the local high schools, the Envisioning Workshop, and the Edgewood Farmers Market.
A non-profit organization dedicated to the betterment of business, the Route 40 Business Association strives to serve as a bridge between the community and the businesses to benefit everyone. The Board of Directors is made up of volunteers who work hard to improve their community. Thomas Esposito, Slavie Federal's Vice-President of Commercial Lending, serves as a board member and participates on the Fund Raising Committee, which organizes a golf tournament every year to benefit the PAL Center.
The Association works as an advocate for its member businesses located along the Route 40 Corridor; to vigorously promotes and cooperates with the Harford County government Route 40 Revitalization efforts; to promote a clean and healthy business friendly environment in which businesses can grow and prosper; to act in partnership with or as an intermediary representing the interests of its members to the local governing bodies; to maintain a high level of commitment with the community; and to maintain charitable objectives, such as the beautification of the communities it serves and an annual scholarship for the local schools.
